Its fair to say that I have moved around a bit in my life. By the time I left home and bought my first home I had lived in 10 different houses. That is 10 houses in just 27 years.

With different homes came different sized bedrooms. The result was a constant need to adapt how my bedroom was laid out. My age also changed my needs which often meant a new wardrobe, chest of drawers or bed.

After moving around so much as a child I was determined to settle in one place for a period of time. I did that living in my flat for 8 years. With a small bedroom and a built in wardrobe there was little I could do with the bedroom. I had what I needed and suited me fine.

Like all things in life eventually things changed – a wife and son later and we desperately needed to move. We did so moving from a one bed flat to a two bed house. Unable to take the built in wardrobe with me I was forced to buy some new bedroom furniture.

Not one to part with money easily I set about researching the best online retailers and exactly what furniture we could get. This involved budget, space and storage need. I actually quite enjoyed it.

I learnt a lot over the course of a week or so. One thing I realised was I knew more about bedroom furniture and bedroom layouts than I realised. It is for that reason I set up The World of Wardrobes – to spread what I have learnt to anyone going through the same thing.

My Wardrobes

As you can see from the pictures here I found a wonderful solid pine wardrobe called The Langley Pine Ladies Wardrobe. This is a double wardrobe with a hanging rail and small shelf at the bottom. As our family grew I later invested in The Langley Pine Gents Wardrobe. This was similar in size but it had a slightly shorted hanging rail section to make room for two drawers at the bottom. This was ideal for our kids who have smaller clothes and the need for drawers.

I very quickly learned that buying solid wood furniture was much better value for money. As someone who works in finance I hate wasting money. Although these wardrobe cost more than any wardrobe I had ever bought they were of the most amazing standard. I bought them over 5 years ago now and they are as good today as they were then. (I also bought two chest of drawers, two bedside tables, a single bed and a double bed from The Langley Pine collection. Sadly it is no longer available).

This Site

This site has been put together to answer all those questions I spent hours researching. Questions like how much space do you need in front of the wardrobe, what is the best way to layout furniture in a small bedroom or what are the reasons to buy a wardrobe with built in drawers.

I have put hours of time into making this site as informative as possible. So if you have a question about wardrobes (and other bedroom furniture) then please check out The World of Wardrobes.

Many thanks, Colin

P.S. If by any chance you have a question I haven’t answered please use the contact me page to get in touch. I am always looking to improve this site.
